Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Deadline,” Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-TX) called on President Donald Trump to acknowledge his words have “dehumanized” Latinos, which she argued resulted in the mass shooting in El Paso, TX.
Escobar said, “He has a responsibility to recognize his role in all of this. What I’m going to tell that crowd is that we will be the turning point for the country. We have to be. But in order to do that, we have to demand accountability. We can’t be a prop. We can’t be an accessory. We have to say, Mr. President, your words harmed us. Your words dehumanized us. And you have an opportunity to take this pain and take this target away. And you do that by owning what you have done, owning what you have said. Saying that it is wrong and telling the world that every human being, regardless of color of skin, regardless of where you’re born, whether on this side of the river or the other side of the river, every human being deserves dignity and respect.”
