During MSNBC’s coverage of Wednesday’s presidential debate, 2020 presidential candidate former HUD Secretary and former San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro (D) discussed his clash with fellow 2020 candidate former Congressman Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) on immigration and said that O’Rourke “probably hadn’t done his homework.” Castro also stated that 2020 candidates from non-border states “have a better understanding of immigration law than Congressman O’Rourke.”
Castro said, “I don’t think he’s done his homework. The difference between my immigration plan and his immigration plan is an important one.”
He later added, “I think he was just misinformed. He probably hadn’t done his homework. … I was happy to hear Congressman Ryan, Senator Warren, Senator Booker, and Governor Inslee have supported my position. I do find it somewhat ironic that a senator from Massachusetts and a senator from New Jersey and a congressman from Ohio have a better understanding of immigration law than Congressman O’Rourke.”
