Representative Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) on Sunday sounded off on the United States’ escalating tension with Iran, questioning the president’s intelligence.
MSNBC’s “Kasie DC” host Kasie Hunt asked Gallego how much of the foreign policy is being influenced by President Donald Trump’s national security advisor John Bolton.
The Arizona representative said Trump “is not smart enough” to understand Bolton, who he called a “neocon,” is manipulating him into a war with Iran.
“[T]o be honest, it’s very scary that you have John Bolton inside the White House trying to influence foreign policy,” Gallego told Hunt. “He is a long-term neocon, he has an obsession about Iran that goes back decades, he’s part of the same trifecta of Dick Cheney and a couple other people that have been trying to push us to war with Iran. The scary part is the president is not smart enough to actually understand that he’s going to be manipulated.”
Gallego went on to say the country could find itself in a long war with Iran because Trump “is just not smart enough to be, essentially, president.”
