Tuesday on CNN’s “Newsroom,” former Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams said she did not believe President Donald Trump’s assertion earlier today that he would not restart family separation of illegal immigrants.
Baldwin asked, “The president and his attorney general saying today that they will not be restarting this family separation policy, which, by the way, in the same breath today he said it works. Do you believe them?”
Abrams said, “I believe that he intends to restart a program that is vicious, that is ineffective, and that is long-term harmful not only to the children and families that he separates but too the core of who we are as Americans. I believe that he is misleading the American public as he often does. And part because he has no real plan other than to push forward his— I think very strong xenophobia that is unfortunately directed largely at South America and Central America, but I think writ large directed at people of color.”
