Monday, Senate Finance Committee chairman Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) declared he will not seek President Donald Trump’s income tax returns, despite a push by Democrats.
Grassley said on “Fox & Friends” that he does not want the IRS used “for political purposes.”
“I don’t want to see them,” stated Grassley. “I’m not going to request them. … I look at that not from the point of view of Trump, but what is legitimate for Congress to do, looking at people’s tax returns.”
He added, “It’s supposed to serve a legislative purpose. In fact, the privacy of your tax returns [is] guaranteed by section 6103. We want to make sure that what [Lyndon B. Johnson] did, what [Richard] Nixon did or what [Barack] Obama did going after conservative organizations that the IRS is not used for political purposes.”
