Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, predicted Department of Justice special counsel Robert Mueller would be compelled to testify before his committee, as well as the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees.
Schiff cited a statutory requirement that would require Mueller appearance before his committee.
“I think it is inevitable that Bob Mueller is going to have to testify before Congress,” Schiff said. “I would think that he would probably be needed before more than one committee. We’ll have an interest in his testimony or others on the issue of the counterintelligence findings and the Judiciary Committee. Maybe the Oversight Committee, as well, might have an interest in other aspects of the investigation. But in the Intel Committee, we have a statutory requirement that the intelligence community, the FBI brief us on any significant intelligence or counterintelligence activity. It’s hard to imagine something that rises to that level more than this investigation.”
