A vehicle barreling down Interstate 85 in Opelika, Alabama, crashed into a guardrail a short distance away from President Donald Trump’s motorcade on Friday, according to a video of the incident.

The video, which was shot by a bystander hoping to get a glimpse of the motorcade from the side of the road, shows the out-of-control vehicle careening into a protective guardrail made of wires embedded in the grass while the president’s motorcade passed by on the other side of the highway.

The guardrail on the edge of the road kept the vehicle from veering into the other lane before it had a chance to hit the oncoming traffic, WSFA reported.

“Oh my God — right at the president? Are you kidding me? Did y’all see that? Holy smokes!” a witness on the videotape yells.

The president’s motorcade did not stop or slow down as the incident unfolded, but Trump continued his tour of rural Alabama’s tornado-ravaged areas without incident. It is unclear whether Trump was aware of the crash.

The Alabama Highway Patrol said in a statement that the Opelika Police Department has opened an investigation into the crash.

The Secret Service said in a statement that the agency was unaware of the crash.
