Sunday on New York AM 970 radio’s “The Cats Roundtable,” Rep. Peter King (R-NY) said that had Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) not defeated then-Rep. Joe Crowley (D-NY) in last year’s New York State’s 14th congressional Democratic primary, Amazon would not have pulled out of their deal to build the company’s second headquarters in the state.
King called it “an absolute disaster” for New York because of the impact Amazon could have had by bringing in business.
“There’s a real obligation on the mayor here because the Democrats now control everything,” King told host John Catsimatidis. “If the Republicans had controlled the state Senate this would not have happened. That’s where it was really killed. If Joe Crowley was still the congressman, it wouldn’t have happened. So, as the leader of the Democratic Party in New York, Andrew Cuomo has got to stand up to these people. He’s got to tell the progressive left that they cannot take over his party. They cannot take over the city and the state, which is what’s happening.”
He continued, “It’s going to be the ruination of New York if the progressive left is allowed to dominate the party. Basically, we have one-party rule in New York right now. And that party is being controlled by the progressive base. They may not be the majority, but they are the ones calling the shots. And the governor has to stop that.”
