Tuesday on CNN’s “The Situation Room,” Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) said if there was a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border as President Donald Trump has argued, he “would not have golfed this weekend.”

Blitzer asked, “If the president does go ahead and declare a national emergency and decide to go ahead, find money elsewhere, build the wall on his own without formal congressional appropriation, what will you and your fellow Democrats do?”

Lieu said, “We will see the president in court. I note that if there was a national emergency, Donald Trump would not have golfed this weekend, nor would he have waited over two years before declaring a national emergency. When Congress writes laws, we expect the words to mean what they say like national emergency. You don’t wait over two years and say it’s a national emergency when clearly, there is none.”
