On Friday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “All In,” New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy (D) stated that Virginia Governor Ralph Northam (D) doesn’t have “any other choice other than to step aside.”
Murphy said, “Chris, first of all, let’s say that bad — unacceptable behavior in 2019, and it was just as unacceptable in 1984, number one. Number two, we’re the party of Barack Obama. We’re the party of inclusion. We’ve got a president who wants to divide us. I’m a former member of the national board of the NAACP. The Ku Klux Klan was a terrorist — is a terrorist organization. I don’t see that the governor’s got any other choice other than to step aside.”
Murphy clarified that he is speaking in his personal capacity, and isn’t speaking as the Vice Chair or the incoming Chair of the Democratic Governors Association.
