Representative Conor Lamb (D-PA) on Thursday discussed the ongoing negotiations to secure the United States’ southern border.
MSNBC “Morning Joe” co-host Willie Geist noted how Democrats have been for border security that did not include physical barriers. Lamb suggested “more manpower” would be better.
“Well, I think it’s going to be up to the negotiators. So, we have to let this process play out,” Lamb told Geist. “But let’s remember that we supported I think it was $1.6 billion for physical barriers just this year alone. And we’ve given additional money in previous years but a lot of that was never even spent. So, that’s one of the concerns here is, how much money are we going to appropriate for these things that the administration isn’t even spending while Customs and Border Patrol agents go unhired. I’d rather have more manpower.
He added, “You know, there is a humanitarian side to all this thing and a CBP agent can address when children are walking across the desert often in the company of dangerous people in a way that a barrier maybe cannot.”
