Former Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) announced Tuesday that he would not be challenging President Donald Trump in 2020.
Flake, an outspoken critic of the president, said on CBS’s “This Morning” that he hopes a Republican will challenge Trump, but that person will not be him.
“I have always said that I do hope that there is a Republican who challenges the president in the primary. I still hope that somebody does, but that somebody won’t be me. I will not be a candidate,” Flake stated.
“I still hope that some, and some are still talking about it, do run,” he added. “I think that is healthy. And I’m not a fan of this president.”
Flake instead announced he was joining CBS as a contributor.
