Sunday on MSNBC’s “Kasie DC,” Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD) was optimistic there would be a bipartisan border security deal after President Donald Trump signed legislation Friday to temporarily end the partial government shutdown.
Cardin admitted the deal may not be what Trump wants, but said there should be a deal made in the next two weeks.
“I’ve had today conversations with my Republican colleagues to look for a way in which we can have a process to make sure that we can achieve a bipartisan border security package,” Cardin told host Kasie Hunt. “We think we can do that. We think we can do that within the next two weeks. We’re going to be reasonable and we’re going to do what’s right for the American people. It may not be what President Trump wants, but we’re going to do what’s right for the American people on border security, and there will be a strong bipartisan effort to make that happen.”
