Wednesday on “The Rachel Maddow Show” on MSNBC, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) criticized President Donald Trump’s foreign policy, accusing him of conducting his foreign policy on Twitter.
“Do you think that we should keep troops in Afghanistan?” Maddow asked Harris after noting her recent trips to the Middle East and recent addition to the list of Democrats running for president in 2020. “The president seems to want to withdraw a large number of them, but it’s not clear that’s going to happen.”
“I do not and I believe we need to do it, though, in a responsible way and that is not what the president has done,” Harris responded. “He has been conducting foreign policy through tweets, instead of what a commander-in-chief should do, which is understand the the seriousness and the severity of one’s decisions and then put the time and effort into studying an issue, consulting with their experts, be it generals, be it foreign policy experts, be it ambassadors and members of the State Department, and our allies, to make a decision, instead of this approach that — that assumes that we’re the only one in the room, or that he’s the only one in the room.”
Maddow went on to gush over Harris, telling her there is a “good chance” she will win the Democratic Party nomination.
“You in a general election fight against Donald Trump would be the funnest [sic] thing in the world to cover,” she added.
