Lindsey Graham: Bolton, Mattis, Pompeo All Have Different Positions Than Trump on Syria

Thursday on CNN’s “At This Hour,” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said Defense Secretary James Mattis, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and National Security Adviser John Bolton did not agree with President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw U.S. forces from Syria.

Graham said, “Secretary Mattis is firmly in the camp of the job in Syria is not yet done, that abandoning the Kurds now will hurt us down the road, that ISIS could and probably will come back. I think that’s the universal view of Bolton, Pompeo, and Mattis.”

He added, “The president has the right to do what he would like. He is the commander in chief. So did President Obama. All I am saying, if you don’t trust these people’s judgment, find somebody you do trust. General Obama turned out not to be such a good general. I don’t think General Graham is going to be a great general. I don’t think General Trump is going to be a great general. The people around him are the most talented people I have met in the last 20 years. I would ask the president to reconsider, come up with a plan to withdraw that’s conditions-based.”
