On Monday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Outnumbered Overtime,” House Republican Conference Vice Chair and House Judiciary Committee member Doug Collins (R-GA) stated that even if Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein was joking about recording the president and invoking the 25th Amendment, “That is not something…that should be allowed.”
Collins said that whether Rosenstein was joking or not shouldn’t matter and that if Rosenstein made the joke, it undercuts confidence, even if it was a joke.
He added, “[W]hen you have something as important as saying I’m going to wear a wire with the president of the United States. I’m going to look to say that I will help invoke the 25th Amendment, you’re actually looking at tearing down the very fabric of the very leader of our free world. That is not something, even in context, that should be allowed.”
Collins later added that there should be “respect” for the president’s decision to keep Rosenstein.
