Friday on ESPN’s “First Take,” Stephen A. Smith reacted to safety Eric Reid signing a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers and weighed in on the possibility of fellow National Anthem-kneeler Colin Kaepernick’s chances of getting back into the league.
Smith declared, “I don’t even know if Colin Kaepernick wants a job anymore.”
After show moderator Molly Qerim immediately pushed back, Smith explained, “When you look at him, you look at the Nike commercial, and you look at how much money that they’ve made off of this, and the type of things that are transpiring, you have to know that in the National Football League with everything that’s coming on, the further you take this, the more it diminishes and dissipates your possibility of getting a job. And I think that he is so principled and he’s so passionate about what he feels that it’s clearly, and based on what he said in the commercial, it’s clearly a price that he’s willing to pay. So, that’s what I mean. I don’t mean literally not wanting something.”
