Thursday on “Get Up,” ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith suggested that tennis star Serena Williams’ gender is preventing the public from acknowledging her as the “greatest ever” athlete.
“If she were a man, what would we be saying? We’d be calling her the greatest ever. There would be no dispute. We wouldn’t even be talking about Michael Jordan. We wouldn’t be talking about Muhammad Ali. We would be talking about Serena Williams because of the sustained level of greatness. And I think the only reason we haven’t is because she is a woman,” Smith said.
