In an interview with CBS’s John Dickerson that aired Tuesday on “CBS This Morning,” former President Jimmy Carter shot down the idea that Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) death represents the end of an era of bipartisanship in the Senate.

“I wouldn’t say [it represents the end of bipartisanship], maybe temporarily, but I have confidence in the future of the United States of America,” Carter told Dickerson. “We’ve faced problems even more than we have now in the past and we’ve overcome them.”

Carter also remembered McCain as “admirable as a Naval officer, as a human being and as a member of the U.S. Senate.”
