Thursday on ESPN’s “NFL Live,” analyst and former NFL offensive lineman Damien Woody reacted to Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston’s three-game suspension for allegedly groping an Uber driver, saying he would “cut” the 24-year-old former first overall pick.
Winston, who has a history of issues with the law from stealing crab legs to rape allegations when he was at Florida State University, said in a statement he has eliminated alcohol from his life, but Woody said alcohol should not be an excuse for his actions.
Woody said there is “no excuse” for Winston’s bad behavior, and said if he is part of the Buccaneers’ ownership, the quarterback would be gone.
“I’m going to say this and I’m going to just be real blunt,” Woody began. “I’m tired of the excuses. … You read off alcohol and all of this stuff. I’m sorry, but as an adult I have an adult beverage. But that don’t mean I have a license to go out there and just go touch random females and do all of this crazy stuff. When does this stop? We’ve had these things happen at Florida State. Then you come to the league and this happens. I don’t want to hear about alcohol and all of this stuff. When is it going to stop?”
