While speaking to reporters about border family separations on Monday, Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI) stated she “would welcome the resignation of all those in this administration who have lied for the president.”
Hirono said, “[T]hese continuing attacks by the president, you know what, they amount to cruelty. And frankly, you know, I’d like — I would love for this nation to have a fresh start. I have — I had an earlier call for the president to resign. I would welcome the resignation of all those in this administration who have lied for the president.”
She later added that “many more” Republicans in the Senate should speak out against the separations and should “step up and act like decent Americans who understand the history of our country and the role that immigrants have played.”
