After high school students in Georgia defaced an American flag as a senior prank, a group of veterans turned the “teachable moment” into a lesson on patriotism.
Last week, 11Alive News was sent a picture of an American flag displayed at Heard County High School with “SENIOR 2K18!” spraypainted in black.
Recognizing the prank crossed the line, Principal Brent Tisdale deemed it an opportunity for the students responsible to talk with a group of local veterans about what the flag represents and about those who have died fighting for it.
Tisdale said the students now understand that what they did was wrong.
