Thursday, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith discussed the resurfacing of some old, deleted racial tweets by potential first overall pick Josh Allen.
Allen says the tweets were made in high school, and have since been deleted, but the offensive posts resurfaced the night before the NFL Draft, which Smith finds “incredibly suspicious.”
“In my years of covering journalism, you don’t put anything past anybody in the world of professional sports,” Smith said on “SportsCenter.” “Millions of dollars are at stake. Franchises are held in the palm of an individual’s hands, particularly from the quarterback position, and if you have an opportunity to facilitate somebody dropping in the draft because you think that improves your chances of getting at them you can’t put anything past that possibility. You also have folks that make enemies along the way when they are on a come-up because they didn’t take hanger-ons or individuals who may have felt that they did a lot for them to elevate them to this point and stature in their careers. It could be anybody.”
