GOP Sen Cassidy on Haspel: ‘Democrats Don’t Want to See Republicans Nominating Women to Such High Positions’

On Thursday’s broadcast of Fox News Radio’s “Brian Kilmeade Show,” Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) discussed Gina Haspel’s nomination to be head of the CIA and said, “Democrats don’t want to see Republicans nominating women to such high positions.” Because this undermines “their narrative that Republicans don’t like women.”

Cassidy reacted to the withdrawal of VA Secretary nominee Ronny Jackson’s nomination by stating, “The left hates Donald Trump, and whatever it takes to defeat his agenda, even if it’s opposing someone like say, Mike Pompeo…they are going to do what they can to defeat Donald Trump.”

After the discussion turned to Haspel, Cassidy said, “Obama kept her. … Now, all of a sudden, because she’s a Trump appointee, she can’t be elevated? I also think that Democrats don’t want to see Republicans nominating women to such high positions. Because that defeats their narrative that Republicans don’t like women. We like merit.”

Cassidy also discussed Senator Rand Paul’s (R-KY) opposition to Haspel and said he hopes the focus is on Haspel, not a broader debate about torture.
