Sisters Lynn Bienvenu and Johannah Stroud of Denham Springs, LA were in Washington Parish, LA on Friday to attend the funeral of their cousin, Velma Kay Crowe, when they witnessed something that stopped them in their tracks.
According to a report by WAFB, when the funeral procession passed Franklinton Junior High School, the sisters noticed a group of teenagers playing basketball had stopped to take a knee as a show of support and respect to the family that had lost a loved one.
The sisters stopped to take a picture of the teenagers and later posted it on Facebook.
Bienvenu told WAFB that one of the teenagers in the picture reached out to her personally on Facebook after the post went viral to express condolences to the family. He also gave the names of the others, identifying them as Shimar Davis, Shimon Davis, Edward James, Brandon Burton, Quindon Burris, Stacy Ard, James Bickham, Avant Money, Malachi Martin and Kalarrian Dillon.
WAFB reports local citizens have seen the group of teens do the same thing for other funeral processions because coaches and teachers at Franklinton Junior High have taught the students the importance of showing respect when a funeral procession passes.
“This meant a great deal to our family,” Bienvenu told WAFB. ” May God bless each one as I feel they will achieve greatness.”
