Friday on Birmingham, AL radio Talk 99.5’s “Matt & Aunie Show,” Attorney General Jeff Sessions discussed his current relationship with President Donald Trump.

In the interview with co-host Matt Murphy and Andrea Lindenberg, Sessions acknowledged Trump’s frustrations with his recusal from the investigation into allegations that Russia interfered with the 2016 presidential election.

“The president has been frustrated with the recusal, and I understand that,” Sessions said. “He made that plain. There’s no doubt about it.”

Sessions went on to point out that he had received complimentary remarks from Trump in recent days, first at an appearance in New Hampshire, then at a sanctuary city conference.

“I feel like the most important thing is he has allowed us and the Department of Justice to contribute to an agenda that he believes in and I believe in,” he added.

Sessions listed ending the opioid crisis, halting violent crime and getting the right people appointed to the judiciary as some of those agenda items.

On Trump’s tweets that are critical of him, Sessions chalked it up to being “just his style.”

“I serve at his pleasure,” Sessions replied. “That’s just his style. He says what’s on his mind at the time. I understand that. The president sets policy in this country, and we respect that. If I felt like I couldn’t carry out the principles I believe in — that he didn’t believe in that as we do our work every day, that would be one thing. But I feel like we’re able to do that every day.”
