On Monday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “MTP Daily,” Representative Ted Deutch (D-FL), whose district includes Parkland, stated President Trump has retreated to a gun position that says he’s only willing to do what the NRA tells him he can do and “by failing to take aggressive action, you help to put kids at risk.”
Anchor Katy Tur asked, “So, do you think the president is standing in the way of protecting kids?”
Deutch answered, “I don’t think that there’s any question that the president of the United States, when he sat in the meeting just a couple of seats away from me, and turned to my colleagues and said, ‘Look, I understand it. You’re petrified of the NRA. You’re afraid of the NRA. You shouldn’t be, and you should pass universal background checks.’ That’s what he said just a week or so ago at the White House. When he now says, ‘I’m only prepared to do something –,’ he retreats to a position that says, ‘I’m only prepared to do something that the NRA tells me I can do.’ Yes, by failing to take aggressive action, you help to put kids at risk. That’s the fact.”
