Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) said he was “very skeptical” about raising the age to 21 for buying certain guns.
Partial transcript as follows:
TODD: On the idea of raising the age to buy an assault weapon to the age of 21, are you supportive of that?
TOOMEY: I’m very skeptical of that because the vast majority of 18, 19, 20, 21 years are law abiding citizens that are not a threat to anyone. I’m willing to hear the debate on the other side of this, but I’m skeptical.
TODD What about the AR-15 specifically. is there an argument to be made that something that powerful, you could make an exception for some hunting rifles, but something that powerful?
TOOMEY: There are a lot of hunting riffles that are as powerful as the AR-15. The difference between the AR-15 and a lot of commonly sold rifles are just cosmetic.
