Tuesday, Sports Illustrated reported about a hostile work environment in the Dallas Mavericks organization, citing a barrage of sexual harassment by former team president and CEO, Terdema Ussery, among other employees.
Appearing Thursday on ESPN’s “Outside the Lines,” SI’s Jessica Luther discussed her report and credited the recent #MeToo revolution to breaking the story.
“The ‘Me Too’ revolution, how much has that opened the gates for women to talk to journalists such as yourself?” host Bob Ley asked.
Luther replied, “Any time that someone comes forward, that gives someone else more courage to do so, that they will be listened to and believed, that their story is not the only one. That’s a huge one, when someone realizes, ‘Wait, that happened to me, too. And yeah, that wasn’t OK. If it wasn’t OK for that person, then it wasn’t OK for me.’ That has played a role in this.”
