Congressional Black Caucus chairman Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-LA) spoke with TMZ Sports Monday about how neither Super Bowl LII team had a National Anthem protester, calling President Donald Trump “irrelevant” and “bitter.”
Trump has been outspoken against players kneeling for the National Anthem, most recently ripping the kneelers during his State of the Union speech.
According to Richmond, Trump was “not wanted” in the NFL and does not win just because players were not kneeling in Sunday’s game.
“The truth of the matter is, unfortunately, I never thought I’d say this, but the president is absolutely irrelevant,” Richmond stated. “He’s starting to be irrelevant across the whole world and lower our standings. So, as of yesterday, in a great Super Bowl … he’s not wanted with the NFL so it doesn’t matter.”
He added, “In the grand scheme of things, when it comes to the NFL, Trump’s probably still bitter he doesn’t have a team, so who really cares?”
