Monday on CNN’s “The Lead,” Weekly Standard co-founder and political commentator Bill Kristol discussed President Donald Trump’s label of Democrats as “un-American” and “treasonous” during a speech in Ohio today.
He criticized Trump saying it was “literally the definition what it means to be a third-world country where you don’t have respectful discourse.”
Kristol said, “Donald Trump should think occasionally about the well being of the country, not simply about his own ego and who is insulting him and insulting people back.”
He added, “Of course that he doesn’t just attack the FBI and Adam Schiff he attacks the entire Democratic party or at least those who didn’t stand for him at the State of the Union, at first he said un-American then he said some people would say treasonous. then he says ‘I’ll say that too.’ And everyone is sort of dismissing that ‘oh that’s just Trump being Trump.’ I was complaining about it on Twitter, and someone e-mailed me, an old friend and said ‘oh, calm down.’ It’s terrible. The president of the United States calling the other party treasonous That’s literally the definition what it means to be a third-world country where you don’t have respectful discourse, you don’t have a loyal opposition.”
