On Friday’s broadcast of CNN’s “New Day,” Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) stated reports that President Trump moved to fire Special Counsel Robert Mueller are a reflection of the fact that “the president has been obstructing justice all throughout his first year in office.”
Merkley said, “Well, it really reflects the fact that the president has been obstructing justice all throughout his first year in office. He took on manipulation of three FBI directors. Now we find out that he ordered his special counsel to fire the special prosecutor. What we see is on every piece of information, the president is absolutely panicked over the truth coming out about his team’s collaboration with the Russians.”
He added, “I mean we’ll have to wait for the special prosecutor to say, does this meet the standard of criminal obstruction? We don’t know that.”
