Aly Raisman on USA Gymnastics’ Handling of Sexual Abuse Claims: ‘I Don’t Think That They Cared’

During Tuesday’s “Outside the Lines” on ESPN, Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman said she does not think USA Gymnastics cared that former team doctor Larry Nassar was molesting gymnasts, adding USA Gymnastics was more focused on its reputation, medals and money.

“Their biggest priority from the beginning, and still today, is their reputation, the medals they win, and the money they make off of us,” Raisman told host Bob Ley. “I don’t think that they care. If they cared, then the second they realized that I was abused they would have reached out, asked if I needed therapy, asked if I was OK, asked what they could have done and they would have made a big change — instead, they allowed Larry to continue to work on little girls in Michigan and molest gymnasts for a very long time.”

“I trusted them, and I shouldn’t have,” she added.

More than 140 women, many former athletes, have filed civil lawsuits alleging that Nassar sexually abused them under the belief they were being treated.
