A group of New York high school cheerleaders were caught on camera in a wild melee that resulted in serious injuries.
Per New York Daily News, video of the brawl between rival squads shows a group attacking two former members. The video of the girls kicking, pulling hair and throwing punches before security and staff broke up the fight was caught on cell phone video and later uploaded to social media.
While the exact reason for the attack is unkown, the two victims from Brooklyn Theatre Arts believe they were targeted by cheerleaders from Victory Collegiate for a perceived favoritism with the coach.
The mother of one of the victims, Latoya Miller said her daughter received treatment for a black eye and a fractured facial bone. The victim’s aunt, Previous Thomas, said the girl was so traumatized by the incident that she has lost sleep and refused to return to school for a week, adding she required mediation before returning to school.
The Brooklyn Theatre Arts High School cheer squad recently disbanded because the coach in charge decided to end it.
New York Daily News reports that the building where the brawl took place once housed South Shore High School, a historically violent school. The school was broken up into six smaller schools in 2010 and continues to experience violence in the halls.
