Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said FBI special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe was a “giant distraction.”
Mnuchin said “I was at dinner last night with the president, the vice president. I haven’t heard anything about any firing. But we have to get past this investigation. It’s a giant distraction. Nobody has said that in any way this impacted the outcome of the election.”
He continued, “I think it should be over quickly. I think there is nothing there, it should be over quickly and people want to focus on other things.”
When asked about firing Mueller again, Mnuchin added, “I don’t have any reason to think the president is going to do that, but that’s obviously up to him.”
