During an interview at a Women Rule event on Tuesday Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) stated she believes Senator Al Franken’s (D-MN) accusers, but is not prepared to call for him to resign.

Gillibrand said she’s “troubled” by the allegations against Franken, and declared, “I believe the women. I believe that what they said happened happened.” She further called for “accountability” in the case and for the ethics investigation to not be used as a shield.

She added, “Let’s just say all of it is unacceptable, and that we should not have people in Congress that act this way.”

When pressed on whether she believes Franken should resign, Gillibrand answered, “I’m so angry and frustrated, and I’m not going to say that today. But it is something that I am very troubled about.”
