In an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, Danielle Pletka, the senior vice president for foreign and defense policy studies at the American Enterprise Institute, told moderator Chuck Todd about “whispers” heard in Washington, DC regarding President Donald Trump on his mental health.
Among those “whispers” were that Trump was “crazy,” “on drugs” and “something wrong with him,” she said.
According to Pletka, Republicans are questioning Trump’s mental stability privately while Democrats were doing so publicly. Publicly, she argued, would beg the question, “What are you going to do about it?”
“I think Republicans are going to keep talking privately about the president,” Pletka said. “But I think it serves nobody to stand up and say, ‘I think the president is crazy.’ He’s the president of the United States, and that kind of thing is just — there’s no political upside for Republicans because the next question is, ‘OK, you think he’s crazy? You think he’s on drugs? You think there’s something wrong with him?’ These are all the whispers we hear in Washington. Then the next question is, ‘So, what are you going to do about it?’ And the answer from them is, ‘We don’t want to do anything about it.'”
