On Wednesday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “All In,” Representative Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), who signed on to an impeachment resolution against President Trump, stated that he thinks a majority of House Democrats would vote to impeach President Trump if there was a secret ballot without political ramifications.
Anchor Chris Hayes asked, “An anonymous vote, a secret ballot of your Democratic colleagues, in which there were no political ramifications, they were simply voting on whether they thought the president merited impeachment, what is your guess of how many yes votes there would be?”
Gutierrez answered, “I think the majority of them would, Chris. Look, I understand that when you’re out of power, you’re seeking ways to get into power, and that’s their job, right? That isn’t my function. I am a member of the Judiciary Committee, and so is my colleague Mr. Cohen, and we have a responsibility as members of that Judiciary Committee to do what historically what the Judiciary Committee has done, and that is to process and to follow the law.”
