Tuesday on MSNBC’s “MTP Daily,” Virginia Democratic candidate for governor Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam said his Republican opponent Ed Gillespie was feeding into President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign style of “hatred and bigotry.”
Northam said, “For Mr. Gillespie to run ads like the MS-13 ads saying I have supported gangs, MS-13 gangs. I am a physician. I have taken care of sick children and their families for over 25 years, I have served in the United States Army for eight years taking care of wounded soldiers during Desert Storm. The ads he is running are inaccurate, and they are despicable. It’s unfortunate he has taken that direction. I’m proud of our team, we ran a positive campaign.”
He added, “I think he is feeding right into what Mr. Trump has been talking about since he ran a race in ’16 that was based on a lot of hatred and bigotry and discrimination and fear.”
