Stephen A Smith on Weed Legalization in NBA: ‘Hell No!’

ESPN “First Take” co-host Stephen A. Smith went on a rant Thursday in opposition to former NBA Commissioner David Stern proposing to remove marijuana from the ban list in the NBA.

Smith called the idea of NBA players showing up to work high “abhorrent” and “ridiculous.”

“[I] don’t support it at all in terms of the NBA legalizing it,” stated Smith. “If states want to legalize it, so be it. [If] they want to tax it, so be it. But I don’t believe that a paying customer should take hard-earned money out of their pockets to patronize an NBA product, to walk to a game and see some dudes walking up courtside high. I don’t believe that.”

He continued, “And I can say that because I have seen instances where it has occurred. I’m not going to mention any names, but I’ve seen it, up close and personal, where a dude goes in and you got a coach sitting there calling a play and the player’s, like, ‘Huh?’ — rocking back and forth. Hell no! I don’t want to hear that. I don’t want to see it! I don’t want it endorsed! I don’t want it okayed.”
