Sharpe: We Want Athletes to Promote Products, But Tell Them ‘Just Play Sports’ When They Bring Up Activism

Fox Sports 1 “Undisputed” co-host Shannon Sharpe praised the NFL players who asked the league to create an awareness month dedicated to social activism, saying he loves it “with passion.”

Sharpe said consumers want athletes to promote things like cars, sports drinks and shoes, but tell them to “just play sports” when they try to talk about social activism.

“[W]e want athletes [to] sell you a car, sell you a sports drink, sell you some sneakers, or maybe a car or something, but when it comes to this issue, now, we want y’all to just play sports,” Sharpe argued.
