This week on the Houston-based “Michael Berry Show,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said during the recess he has “crisscrossed” Texas” and learned voters were “frustrated and ticked” Republicans have not kept their promises.
Among those promises was the repeal of Obamacare, cutting taxes regulations and bring jobs back.
Cruz warned that without those accomplishments, Republicans would “collectively look like fools” and lose the majorities in the House and Senate.
Cruz said, “As we crisscross the state, there is a consistent message, which is that people are number one, hopeful with a Republican administration and Republican majorities in both houses that we can deliver on everything we have been promising. That we can repeal Obamacare, cut taxes and cut regulations and get jobs coming back. People are also frustrated. They are frustrated and ticked that we are sitting here in late August and we haven’t got it done yet. And they are mad at Congress. They are frustrated, and they want Republicans to stop running around shooting each other and focus on getting the job done.”
On Obamacare, Cruz said, “I don’t think we are done and a lot of folks in the press celebrated that that was the final defeat of repeal. I think that’s wrong. I think failure is not an option. Republican, you know, we have been for seven years promising the American people—if you elect us we will repeal this disaster of a law. If we fail to deliver, we collectively look like fools.”
He added, “I think if we fail to deliver on Obamacare, on tax reform, on judges, I think the policy consequences will be catastrophic, but I also think the political consequences will be catastrophic. We risk having a Nancy Pelosi House and a Chuck Schumer Senate. We risk people saying, to heck with all of them, you don’t do what you said, and I’m with every breath in my body I am fighting for that not to happen.”
