Brokaw: I Don’t Know If Trump Can ‘Stitch the Country Back Together Again’

Wednesday on NBC’s “Today,” former NBC “Nightly News” anchor Tom Brokaw said President Donald Trump comments about the violence in Charlottesville, VA has caused a division in America that Trump is not capable of fixing.

Brokaw said, “It really does require presidential leadership of a higher order, to bring the country together. And now, the question will be, how many members of his administration will feel that they have to leave because they can’t support his policies? Does he read some kind of a statement? That’s not going to be enough. He’s going to have to find a way to stitch the country back together again. And frankly, I don’t know whether he’s capable of doing that in his own mind.

He continued, “This is the Donald Trump that everybody in New York came to know when he was a business man. He would see things through his own prism. But now he’s the president of the United States. And it’s always somebody else’s fault. It’s Mitch McConnell’s fault because they didn’t get health care. It’s someone else’s fault. He is the moral authority, by the office that he has and it’s about time for him to exercise that.”
