Deputy AG Rosenstein on Comey Memo Leaks: ‘We Have an Obligation’ to Keep Memos on Ongoing Matters Confidential

During a preview of clip of an interview set to air on Wednesday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “The Story,” Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein weighed in the leaks of former FBI Director James Comey’s memos of his conversations with President Trump by stating that, as a general principle, the DOJ has a duty to keep memos about ongoing matters confidential.

Anchor Martha MacCallum asked if it would be proper for an FBI director to take notes of a conversation like that and then leak them.

Rosenstein answered that the “as a general proposition,” the DOJ takes confidentiality “seriously. And so, when we have memoranda about our ongoing matters, we have an obligation to keep that confidential.”

MacCallum followed up to ask Rosenstein if that means he wouldn’t approve of the release of memoranda written in a conversation with the president to the press.

Rosenstein responded that the “general proposition” is “quite clear.”
