Thursday, Fox Sports 1’s “Jason Whitlock” discussed the alleged racial vandalism at Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James’ Los Angeles home.
James responded publicly to the vandalism, saying, “No matter how much money you have, no matter how famous you are, no matter how many people admire you, being black in America is tough,”
Whitlock said on Fox Sports 1’s “The Herd” that he believes James is not a victim of “real racism” because the NBA star is rich.
“Racism is an issue in America, but is primarily an issue for the poor,” said Whitlock. “It’s not LeBron James’ issue. LeBron James, whether he likes it or not, or whether people close to him are telling him or not, he has removed himself from the damages and the ravages of real racism. He may have an occasional disrespectful interaction with someone, a disrespectful inconvenience.”
Whitlock then added James is sending a “terrible message” to black people by acting like a victim over vandalism to his second home.
“LeBron needs to quit embracing his victimhood because he’s not a victim and it’s a terrible message for black people,” said Whitlock to host Colin Cowherd.
He continued, “This message that we’re constantly pumping out to young black people that we’re just victims and, ‘Oh my God the worst thing in the world is to be black in America,’ is just not true. The worst thing to be in America and anywhere on the planet is poor. Go do the numbers, go do the stats. If you’re poor, regardless of color, you’re catching hell in America and on this planet.”
