TheRoot.com Politics Editor Jason Johnson had some strong words Saturday for Representative-elect Greg Gianforte (R-MT) in reaction to him body-slamming Guardian reporter Ben Jacobs earlier this week.
“This is disgusting, it’s cowardly — this is how democracy dies,” Johnson said on MSNBC’s “AM Joy.”
He did not stop there. Johnson went on to say that if anybody tried to assault some of the reporters he knows in Washington D.C., “you will see these hands.”
“First off, Gianforte should be ashamed of himself,” Johnson added. “I hope they throw the book at him even though the sheriff gave to his campaign. If you’re not tough enough, if you’re not responsible enough, if you’re not disciplined enough to take questions about the budget, you’re certainly not tough enough and responsible enough to go to Washington, D.C. Because I promise you, I promise you if you try a stunt like this with some of the reporters I know in D.C., you will see these hands and lawsuits in ways that you can’t comprehend in Montana.”
