Monday on his Fox Sports Radio show “Outkick the Coverage,” Clay Travis bashed the NFL after four players with domestic violence were drafted in the 2017 NFL Draft.
In this year’s draft, the Cincinnati Bengals selected running back Joe Mixon in the second round after he was caught on video in 2014 punching a woman in the face, the Oakland Raiders selected defensive back Gareon Conley in the first round while he is under investigation for rape, the Jacksonville Jaguars took wide receiver Dede Westbrook despite his previous arrests for throwing the mother of his two children down and biting her on separate incidents and the Cleveland Browns added defensive lineman Caleb Brantley in the sixth round although he has been charged with misdemeanor assault for punching a woman in the face.
Travis noted each of the questionable draft picks as evidence the NFL does not actually care about domestic violence like it would have everyone believe.
“I think that the Joe Mixon situation is evidence that everything the NFL says about violence against women is all for show,” Travis said.
“It’s all just a fig leaf designed to give cover,” he added. “If the guy is good enough at football, he’s gonna play.”
Travis went on to say that former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez and former Carolina Panthers wide receiver Rae Carruth are the only players to do something so egregious that their talents on the field did not exceed their problems off the field.
“You basically have to commit murder in order not to be able to play in the NFL,” he said.
