In this week’s Democratic weekly address, Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) accused President Donald Trump of failing to keep his promises one month on the job.
“Let’s be honest, this is not the presidency we were promised,” Duckworth stated. “Americans deserve a president whose word they can trust, but the number of broken promises are adding up quickly.”
Duckworth went on to chastise Trump for not “draining the swamp” like he promised, and instead, choosing “his old Wall Street friends” as his “senior advisers and Cabinet officials who are unqualified, poorly vetted and ethically challenged.”
The senator also called for an “independent and transparent investigation” into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn over his telephone conversations with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak.
“Senate Democrats know the American people deserve an independent and transparent investigation into who at the White House knew about Gen. Flynn’s contacts with the Russians and when they knew it,” Duckworth added.
She concluded, “This president has certainly made a lot of promises, but so far he has an abysmal record of keeping them. We can and should expect much more from our leaders, but the bare minimum the American people should accept in a president is truth and accountability.”
