On Tuesday’s Fox Sports Radio show “Outkick the Coverage,” host Clay Travis reacted to Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones’ arrest video, saying its coverage would be much different if Jones were white like swimmer Ryan Lochte, Duke’s Grayson Allen or retired quarterback Peyton Manning.
In the video, Jones berated and wished death upon a police officer in the back of the cruiser.
Travis noted ESPN’s coverage of Lochte’s Brazil saga, Grayson Allen’s tripping habits and Peyton Manning’s mooning incident from over 20 years ago, but said at the time of his morning show Tuesday that ESPN had yet to make any mention of the Jones video.
“If this were a white athlete, you think about the way that ESPN covered the Peyton Manning mooning incident, you think about the way that they are still covering Grayson Allen tripping a dude on the basketball court, think about the way they covered Ryan Lochte who peed outside — think about that — think about the way that ESPN covered Ryan Lochte peeing outside of a gas station in Brazil and getting robbed, and the way they’re covering Pacman Jones and tell me there isn’t an agenda at play here,” Travis said.
He concluded, “If this was [Bengals quarterback] Andy Dalton doing the exact same thing, this would be the number one story in America for a month. It might be the lead story on ‘Good Morning America.’ White dudes behaving badly sells. Black dudes behaving badly nobody even reacts. It’s unbelievable to me.”
