Friday on NBC’s “Today,” while discussing President-elect Donald Trump’s Thursday tweet saying the U.S. needs to “expand its nuclear capability,” and MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski reporting this morning Trump told her, “Let it be an arms race, incoming White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said, “there is not going to be,” an arms race.
Spicer said, “The tweet continues unless other countries come to their senses. And I think the point he’s making is we are not going to sit back as a country and allow other countries with the U.S. sitting idly by. This president is going to take action and make sure that the American interests are protected.”
He continued, “Other countries need to be put on notice that he is not going to sit back and allow them to undermine our safety, our sovereignty. He is going to match other countries and take action.”
Lauer replied, “But If there is going to be an arms race…”
Spicer interjected, “There is not going to be…But here is my point, there’s not going to be because he is going to ensure other countries get the message he is not going to sit back and allow that. What’s going to happen is they will all comes to the senses and we will all be just fine.”
